Aerospace History

While the origins of human flight date back over a thousand years, most of the history making innovations in aviation have taken place over the past 150 years. The following resources will help your child uncover the history of flight through readings, interactive games, and online exhibits.

All Grades:

Library of Congress Dream of Flight Exhibit: A thorough timeline tracking the history of aviation from 1000 B.C.E. to the present.

PBS 100 Years of Aviation Travel An interactive site chronicling the history of passenger air travel over the past century.

Grades Pre-K-4:

This is America, Charlie Brown: The Kitty Hawk and Space Station episodes in this classic series are recommended for any child interest in aviation history.

Grades 6-12:

Engineering the Wright Way: A robust explanation of the four forces of flight appropriate for middle school students.
