Post WWII Service: >Mr. Wood began a flying career in 1940 and received flight training on the PT-13, BT-9 and BT-14 before being commissioned in the Air Force . He served a 26-year career as a pilot and instructor, including during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, and flew B-17s, B-24s, B-29s, B-47s and B-52s. Mr. Wood then served as chief of combat operations for the Strategic Air Command during World War II. He later served as the director of operations for the 43rd Bomb Group before becoming the overseas chief of staff for operations for the Far East Air Force. He also was commander of the 310th Bomb Wing. He later became part of a strategic evaluation group and commanded the 100th Bomb Wing. He retired as director of Missile, Air and Ground Safety for the Strategic Air Command in Omaha, Neb. He had received a presidential commendation for heroism during the Korean War.
Post WWII Civilian Occupation(s): Mr. Wood lived in Sacramento, California, after his military career and worked as a custom home builder until retiring in 1964.
