Thoughts About the 58th:
I think mostly of the crews on Tinian preparing for missions. We were kids, really, entrusted with awesome responsibilities. We bonded quickly because our lives and many other lives depended on how well we did our jobs. I think of the hard physical labor and of the long, grueling hours flying to our targets when the monotony of flying turned to anxiety as we approached that destination. I recall crash landing on Iwo Jima and how thankful I felt that we were all safe. Still, we managed to make our own entertainment and have some fun and relaxation.
I reflect with pride on our successes and am grateful I had the opportunity to serve our country with the 58th BW, 444th BG, 377th BSqdn.
Comments: Retired on July 1, 1974. C/MSgt. (E-9) 27 years active duty, 5 years reserve.
