Mr. Rewitz was shot down during the Yawata mission on August 20, 1944, four of the crew were killed. The other seven were taken prisoner. Ernest Pickett documented the story in a book called, Proof Through the Night.
The plane crashed in Saienba, Kokura City, Fukuoka Prefecture.
Comments: Mr. Rewitz passed away November 12, 1965. He is buried at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, CA.
