Thoughts About the 58th: I was with the 40th BG from the beginning at Borinquen Field, Puerto Rico through Panama, Guatemala, Ecuador, “the Rock” then back to Kansas. Appointed Flight Officer in KS and took the oath from Col. Carmichael in 1943. Since I wasn't duel rated Bombardier/Navigator was transferred to Biggs Field, El Paso, TX for combat training in B-24s then on to England. My 445th BG CO in England, Col. W. W. Jones, who was a 2nd Lt. in P.R. had a lot of flying in the Caribbean looking for German submarines. Saw one off the coast of Aruba, but no luck.
