Thoughts About the 58th: It was my honor to have served in such a top-rated outfit and to serve in so many assignments, especially the 25th Air Service Group, 35th Air Service Sqdn and had the privilege of knowing so many talents and great buddies, and to have the honor of being assigned to work on the ENOLA GAY and meeting Colonel Tibbets. Being able to salute him on his achievements. Being assigned for a couple of days to his composite group to complete bomb bay clearance modification problems on the Enola Gay before its historical mission flight on that day. Also on my crew for those days were Sgt. Mike Brienza, Jim Burns, Sgt. Audley Kinter (?) and Sgt. Robert O. Beck. All of the 468th Grp of the 58th Bomb Wing. Was temporarily assigned for two days, after waiting three days for security clearance from intelligence before entering secured area, over the pit where the bomb was lowered, we stood on that platform while we completed our job on hydraulic and oxygen lines in the bomb bay.
