Post WWII Service: Recalled from the reserves in July 1950 for the Korean War. Back in B-29s, flew 50 missions over North Korea from Okinawa (19thBG), followed by flying B-36, B-52, KC-135 plus other administrative aircraft. I had extensive staff assignments as War Plans Officer in the Strategic Air Command; two assignments to the Pentagon with JCS/Air Staff/AF Command Center; Military Asst. Advisory Group in Athens, Greece; Hdqtrs USECOM in Stuttgart, Germany; and Command Center Controller at NKP, Thailand during S.E.A. war.
Post WWII Civilian Occupation(s): Owned and operated an Esso Service Station. Sold insurance and Amway products. Operated a bowling alley. Worked as a Systems Analyst for Booz-Allen & Hamilton Management Consultant firm dealing with Foreign Military Sales for 10 years.
Thoughts About the 58th: The 58th BW, 468th BG was a great outfit with a top-notch Commander, Colonel Jim Edmundson. For a 21-year old ex-farm boy, it was an awesome, if sometimes frightening, experience. I've had opportunities through the years to share these WWII experiences with my four children, fourteen grandchildren, high school students, church groups and civic organizations. And my chest swells with pride each time I have the opportunity to share.
