Thoughts About the 58th: The time that I was a part of the 58th BW on Tinian in the Mariana Islands at age 21 is a part of my life during which I not only continued to grow mentally and physically, but also grew to understand people. A time and experience which helped to relieve the thoughts of being far away from home and then being asked to participate in an activity which only war can bring.
Living with men from all walks of life enabled me to develop a camaraderie which helped in my post-war association and dealings with fellow students in college and later in the work force. I'm happy to be able to continue the friendships and sharing of experiences with men of the 58th when we have our reunions. This is another opportunity to relive these days on Tinian and remember what it was like to witness concern and loyalty among the men who helped make the 58th the great and successful flying unit that it was.
