Thoughts About the 58th:
Comments: Paul was killed on takeoff out of Tinian in the Marianas near the end of his tour of duty. His wife survived him. He was my best friend in the Service.
Gravel Gertie, piloted by Ted Watson, was taking off from Tinian to participate in the Takamatsu air raid. Shortly after takeoff, the plane crashed off the coast of Tinian, about one mile offshore.
He is memorialized at both the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, HI and Doles Cemetery in Jackson County, OH
