Drove a truck in New York for Engel's Trucking. Delivery to piers, homes and stores. Before I worked with Engel Trucking, I was supposed to go to Glen L. Martin. I went to Manhattan School of Aviation, but my mother did not like the idea of me leaving home for Baltimore. Now this is before December 7 (Jap attack). I was assigned a job by the school after graduation. |
Thoughts About the 58th: |
My experience is truly priceless in regard to my friends and buddies and seeing the different places and things, like the Panama Canal, the locks and the fresh water lakes, seeing Perth, Australia, and some parts of India. What sorry places they are and the way people live. I remember the awful trip on the troop ship. It broke down six times near Cuba. It took 105 days to get to India. It was a good thing that it took so long. We were supposed to dock in Bombay. The ammo ship blew up. We would have been dead! |
