Thoughts About the 58th: His memories of landings at Iwo Jima and ditching were among his most vivid. Their crew became a 'Lead Crew' after training at Muroc, CA. Allen states that 'the friendships formed among the 58th Bomb Wing members are the very best.' One of the few amusing events occurred on their longest mission over Aomori, Japan. Allen is still reminded of his valiant effort to shoot down the star Venus that he mistook for a Japanese fighter on that black and frightful night.
