Explore our region's maritime heritage with a trip to Mystic Seaport and beautiful Newport, Rhode Island this fall in support of the New England Air Museum.
Sunday September 22, 2019: America's Maritime Heritage
Travel from the New England Air Museum to Mystic Seaport for a behind-the-scenes tour of the Seaport's watercraft collection and a cruise aboard the 101-year-old Sabino coal fired steamboat. Lunch will be on your own with ample time to explore the museum. We'll continue to Newport that afternoon and check into our hotel, before enjoying a group dinner at the Main Sail restaurant.
Monday September 23, 2019: The Navy and Narragansett Bay
We'll travel to Naval Station Newport, an active military base home to the prestigious Naval War College, for an exclusive guided tour of the Naval War College Museum. After returning to our hotel, you'll have time for lunch and exploration on your own. Later, we'll stroll along Newport's waterfront to the Rum Runner II, a 1929 motor yacht used by bootleggers during Prohibition. Once aboard, we'll enjoy a narrated tour of Narragansett Bay before walking back to the hotel. Dinner will be on your own.
Tuesday September 24, 2019: Newport in the Gilded Age
We'll begin our day with a narrated bus tour of scenic Ocean Drive before arriving at Belcourt. One of the famous Newport "cottages," Belcourt is newly reopened to the public after years of private ownership, and we'll enjoy an exclusive guided tour with their restoration team. A group luncheon at La Forge Restaurant will follow overlooking the grass courts of the International Tennis Hall of Fame. We'll finish our day at the Audrain Auto Museum, home to an extensive collection of historic vehicles. Dinner will be own your own.
Wednesday September 25, 2019: The City By The Sea
You'll have the day to explore Newport on your own. Recommendations include trips to one of the Preservation Society of Newport County properties, the Newport Art Museum, Redwood Library or Touro Synagogue. We will depart Newport at 3:00pm and arrive back at the New England Air Museum at approximately 6:00pm.
Fees include Superior First Class hotel accommodations in the heart of downtown Newport with complimentary Wi-Fi, an indoor pool, and onsite spa facilities; 1 dinner, 1 luncheon, 3 buffet hotel breakfasts, and all dining gratuities; all museum entrance and tour fees; luxury motor coach transportation and driver gratuities; all taxes and service fees. This trip is limited to 36 participants
The cost for Museum members is $1,300 double occupancy, $1,900 single occumancy; add $100 per person for non-members. A $500 per person deposit is required.
