Open Cockpit Day & Great New England RC Swap Meet
The Museum will hold two events on Sunday, October 13th.
The first event is the Fall Open Cockpit Day. Visitors will be permitted to climb into the cockpits of up to twelve aircraft. These include the Vietnam era “Huey” helicopter, the vintage DC-3 airliner, the North American F-100 Super Sabre jet fighter, the Coast Guard HH-52 rescue helicopter, and the Lockheed F-104C Starfighter.
Also to be open for the first time in several years is the Fairchild Republic A-10 “Warthog” which flew for many years with the Connecticut Air National Guard based at Bradley International Airport. This particular airplane is a veteran of Operation Desert Storm.
The second event of the day will be the 2nd Annual Great New England RC Swap Meet. This event is co-sponsored by the Wintonbury Flying Club and is included with Museum admission. Visitors will have their opportunity to learn all aspects of RC aviation from remote control airplane enthusiasts. All types of RC aircraft, parts and accessories will be available for purchase. RC simulators will be available for visitors to try.
Museum educators will provide hands-on activities for younger visitors and the Museum’s Flight Sim Spot full-flight simulator experience will be available throughout most of the day. For the convenience of visitors, a food vendor will be on site serving sandwiches, snacks and beverages.
The Open Cockpit program runs from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with the Museum and Gift Shop staying open until 5:00 PM. Sneakers or rubber-soled shoes are recommended.
