Great Lakes 2T-1A 'Sportster' Replica
Gift of C. Lawrence Carlson
Some 200 copies of this model aircraft were built between 1929 and 1932. Because of their universal appeal and aerobatic excellence the little ship dominated air shows into the 1960's. Its swept-back upper wing gave it a very high rate of roll and with larger engines it was very responsive. The plane was so popular that it was revived and several more were built between 1974 and 1978. Because it was very well equipped with instruments and radios it was a welcome guest at any airport.
This replica was built by Mr. C. Lawrence Carlson of Rocky Hill, CT from original company plans. It was flown by him until he donated it to the Museum in December, 1991.
