Simulators, Demonstrations & Activities

The New England Air Museum offers a variety of activities, multimedia & drop-in programs for visitors. Programs offered change daily depending on the time of the year. Feel free to contact the Museum to see what activities are available during your visit.

Aircraft Quest Scavenger Hunts

When: Daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Aviators, ages 3 and older, are invited to explore our museum using an Aircraft Quest Scavenget Hunt. Forms are available at the Admissions Desk and you can return your form to the Admissions Desk to earn a prize from our Wings N' Things gift shop.

KidsPort & Imagination Dress Up Area

When: Daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Where:   In the connector between the Civil and B-29 Hangars

Learn how planes fly and let your child’s creativity soar at the Imagination Center! Dress-up as a Commercial Pilot, Astronaut or Fight Pilot while engaging in our KidsPort area.

Paper Plane Activity Station

When: Daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Where: In KidsPort in the connector between the Civil and B-29 Hangars

Construct a paper airplane!

Computerized Flight Simulators

When: Daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Where: Military Hangar

"Fly" a Cessna 172 from airports throughout the world using computerized flight simulators.

Grumman E-1B Tracer Cockpit

When: Daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Where: Military Hangar

Children ages three & up can sit in an exact replica of a U.S. Navy reconnaissance aircraft. This is a great opportunity to play pilot, often for the first-time. There are two seats, so mom or dad can join in the fun.

Open Cockpit Tours

When: Daily from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. based on availability

Gain a pilot’s eye perspective from a cockpit exploring the controls and flight instruments of select aircraft within our collection.

Soarin' Story Time

When: Weekends 10:45 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Where: Military Hangar Stage

Join the NEAM Public Programs Team for an aerospace themed story. Stories change weekly. Recommended for children 8 and under.

Build & Fly Challenge

When: Weekends 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Where: Military Hangar

Hands-on "build & fly" activities that will spark the imagination and test your engineering skills. Activities change weekly.

Flight Science Demonstrations

When: Weekends 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Where: Military Hangar Stage

Flight really takes off in our interactive demonstrations about the science and history of flight. From balloons to the Wright Brothers to the Space Shuttle, you can feel the pressure of air, see a balloon launch, explore the Bernoulli Principle and more.

Ercoupe Full-Motion Flight Simulator

When: Sundays Only 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Where: Civil Hangar

Constructed from a real airplane that has been modified, the Ercoupe is a full-motion flight simulator with elevators, ailerons and rudder controls. Young pilots learn how to control an airplane in flight. Children ages 7 & up can fly solo, younger children must be accompanied by an adult guardian.
