School Vacation Week Activities

December 26-30, 2018

Let your imagination soar at the New England Air Museum this holiday season! The museum is offering an exciting array of family fun activities during December School Vacation Week, Tuesday, December 26th through Sunday, December 30th. Explore three giant exhibit hangars filled with over sixty historic aircraft and experience the wonders of flight through daily hands-on activities including:

  • Build & Fly Challenges
  • Interactive Flight Science Demonstrations
  • Open Cockpit Experiences in historic aircraft
  • Computerized Flight Simulators
  • Scavenger Hunts

In addition to these daily activities, the following special events are scheduled:

  • Wednesday, December 26: Straw Rocket Challenge
    10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
    Are you a rocket scientist? Find out by building and launching a straw rocket using our specialized NEAM rocket launchers.
  • Thursday, December 27: LEGO Flying Machine Contest
    10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
    Back by popular demand! Children ages 3-13 are invited to construct a flying machine using the Museum’s collection of LEGOs. Winners will be awarded prizes in three age categories, and participants need not be present to win.
  • Friday, December 28: Model Airplane Workshop
    10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
    Build and fly balsa wood airplanes with help from our team of expert builders. This workshop is designed for visitors ages 3 and older, and there is a $5.00 cost per model kit.
  • Saturday, December 29: Paper Plane Contest
    10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
    Use your imagination to construct a far flying paper plane from a variety of materials. Will your creation go the distance?
  • Sunday, December 30: Parachute Drop Challenge
    10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
    Learn the science of parachutes while building and launching a weight bearing parachute.

All events and activities are included with general admission unless otherwise noted. Events and activities are subject to change.

Please note the Museum will be closed on Christmas Eve, Monday, December 24, 2018; Christmas Day, Tuesday, December 25, 2018; New Year's Eve, Monday, December 31, 2018; and New Year's Day, Tuesday, January 1, 2019.
