He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many positions of responsibility, including branch president in Bishop, California, and was the first bishop of the Mountain Home, Idaho, 2nd Ward. He worked in the lumber business for many years in Idaho, Nevada, California, and Utah, then accepted a position with the Internal Revenue Service as purchasing agent in Ogden, Salt Lake City and Portland, Oregon, until retiring in 1979.

Mr. Roper passed away January 13, 2001. He is buried at Mountain View Cemetery, Mountain Home, Idaho.
