War & Disability
Temporary Exhibit November 1-30, 2012

“War & Disability” examines the American military and disability experience in terms of technology, legislation, psychiatric effects of combat and pop culture, and covers the Civil War to the present day. This exhibit is on loan throughout the month of November from the Museum of disABILITY of Buffalo, New York.

Included with this exhibit are Civil War-era medical instruments and prostheses on loan from the collection of Dr. Ira Spar and from the Museum of Connecticut History.  The University of Hartford's Department of Physical Therapy in conjunction with Hanger, Inc. have also loaned items from 1930s to the present day.

Veterans and active military personnel receive ½ off the Museum's regular admission prices throughout November 2012. The Museum will donate the difference to the Friends of Fisher House CT. The Fisher House Foundation builds and maintains long term residential facilities near military hospitals nationwide where families of seriously injured soldiers can reside during the long rehabilitation process. The Friends of Fisher House CT are raising funds to build a Fisher House in West Haven, Connecticut.
