He loved the automobile industry and spent his entire career working in that industry. Jay worked as an auto mechanic for H.L. Liston in Kansas City, sold auto parts for Heidbreder-Meyer Auto Supply and was co-owner of Weidinger-Shryock Chevrolet Agency in Vienna, Mo., from 1958 to 1966. He then joined Schanzmeyer Ford in Jefferson City as a salesman, where he continued his employment through dealership changes to Capitol City Ford in 1975 and to Mike Kehoe Ford in 1992. Jay retired in 2006 after 40 years of service to Ford at the age of 85. Throughout his career, he received many top sales awards and was recognized for his consistent outstanding sales performance.
