Millard resumed his career in the federal Civil Service, serving again at Rome Air Depot, then returning to Lebanon to serve at the VA Hospital.

In 1957 he transferred to Washington, D.C. for the remainder of his career, serving as a Communications Specialist with the Veterans Administration, the General Services Administration, and the Department of Labor. During this time Millard, Elizabeth and their three children lived in Silver Spring, Maryland.

He retired in 1975.  His hobbies and interests included woodworking, ocean fishing, camping, and travel. Millard was a member of Friedens Lutheran Church in Myerstown, the Distinguished Flying Cross Society, the China-Burma-India (CBI) Veterans Association, the Pennsylvania Great Valley (CBI) Basha in Allentown, Lebanon VFW Post 23, Lebanon American Legion Post 158, and the Lebanon Lodge BPO Elks #631. He was also a Charter Member of the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Thoughts on the 58th Bomb Wing:
He had flown about 200 sorties, 35 in combat, while registering one and a quarter enemy kills in almost 2,000 hours in the B-29.
 
Comments:
Mr. Hamilton passed away September 22 2012.  He is buried at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Myerstown, PA.
