Thoughts on the 58th Bomb Wing:

| I got to travel all the way around the world and experienced many sights and adventures. Africa, India and China were very interesting. I volunteered for combat three times. I took the hit of three explosive machine gun bullets at Singapore. Two went deep into my left shoulder. On this mission Humphrey (468th BG) and Wilson (444 BG) were shot down. Hit on January 11, 1945, came back to my unit near the end of March and started flying again even though the medics said I should be on limited service until July. Never missed a mission even though I had problems with my left arm and shoulder and some sight problems. I lost some high quality friends which is the thing I most regret. I wish I had never been wounded as it caused me lifelong eye and other problems. I have written a book "My B-29 Story", 660 pages. Self-published in September 2003. |
