Mr. Mulder later served in Korea and then Viet Nam as first base commander at Cam Ranh Bay.  He retired as a Lt. Colonel.

Merle was a garage tinkerer of cars, Honda motorcycles, various scooters, mopeds, bicycles and anything else mechanical. His hobbies included surfing, u-control airplanes, civil war history, religious studies, philosophy, back-road motorcycle riding and the Sunday morning swapmeet.

Mr. Mulder passed away April 12, 2013 and is buried at Old Mission Cemetery in San Luis Obispo, CA.
