The Ranger Aircraft Engine Division of the Fairchild Engine and Airplane Corporation of Farmingdale, NY produced the 6-440C primarily for Fairchild's family of trainer aircraft, including the PT-19, in the mid-1930's.
Along with the PT-19 variants of the 6-440C also powered aircraft including:
- Fairchild PT-26
- Falconar SAL Mustang
- Grumman G-44 Widgeon
- St. Louis PT-LM-4
The engine is on display in the Civilian Hangar near the Great Lakes Sportster Replica.
