Courtesy of Pratt & Whitney Aircraft

The Wasp Junior is one of the most successful reciprocating engines ever built. Pratt & Whitney introduced it as a complement to the Wasp and Hornet families of engines in 1930. More than 39,000 of all versions were produced until 1953 and powered more than 60 types of aircraft including:

  • Beechcraft Model 18, Staggerwing
  • Boeing-Sterman Model 75 (aftermarket conversions)
  • de Havilland DHC-2 Beaver
  • Grumman G-21 Goose
  • Lockheed Model 10A Electra, Model 12A Electra Junior
  • North American BT-14
  • Sikorsky H-5 helicopter, S-39 Jungle Gym
  • Vought OS2U Kingfisher
  • Vultee BT-13 Valiant

This engine is located in the Military Hangar near the Hughes Seasprite display.
