Thoughts on the 58th Bomb Wing:

Mitchell's Purple Heart was awarded after his top gun turret blister blew out. The bomber crashed in a river bed in eastern China, about 25 kilometers from Japanese territory, after it ran out of fuel due to a damaged fuel transfer system.
