Mr. Anderson was the Co-Pilot on B-29 42 6335 which was on its way from Salina, Kansas to Kharagpur, India. Most of the aircraft departing Cairo, Egypt experience high fuel consumption. It was believed, the color-coding for 100-octane gas by the British was different from that used by the United States. The B-29 crews departing Cairo thought they were getting 100 octane, but were getting a lower octane. This lower octane required higher power setting to insure cooler engine performance. The high power setting increased fuel consumption, causing many planes to run low on fuel for this leg of the trip.
This crew crashed on April 21, 1944, at Karachi, India during a violent sand storm, and possibly low fuel. There was no approach system for landing guidance at this airport. Five men were killed in the crash. Mr. Anderson was seriously injured. The B-29 crashed into a British barracks near the runway, killing many British soldiers.

Mr. Anderson passed away April 8, 2009. He is buried at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
