The Museum is committed to serving young people with a variety of programs to interest them in history, geography, technology and science.The following are current offerings that we have made available to scout groups.


Overnights at the New England Air Museum

Overnight activities include climb-aboard Open Cockpit Experiences in real aircraft, hands-on Build & Fly challenges, interactive Flight Science Demonstrations, Aircraft Quests, and more!

Overnights run from 5:30pm through 9:00am. Check-in begins at 5:30pm; formal programming begins at 7:00pm.

Participants receive FREE ADMISSION to the New England Air Museum the following day, as well as half-price admission for immediate family members.

$55 per person fee also includes an evening snack and a hot breakfast, plus a commemorative patch for all participating scouts.

Reservations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis with a $25 per person deposit required to reserve a spot. This is a very popular event, so it's best to reserve early!

Aviation Merit Badge Workshops

Earn your Aviation Merit Badge at the New England Air Museum! Our full-day workshops fulfill all badge requirements and are offered to scouts in partnership with the Connecticut Rivers Council. Workshops are offered six times a year and run from 10:00am to 3:30pm. The fee is $35 per scout, and a brown bag lunch is recommended.

The following prerequisites apply to all Aviation Merit Badge workshops:
Scouts must acquire and read the Aviation Merit Badge Handbook prior to attending the merit badge session.
Scouts must know how to use a compass with a map (practice at troop meetings if needed). Scouts MUST have completed Second Class requirements 1a and 1b.
Scouts must be at least 12 years old to participate.

A partial will be given to Scouts who do not have sufficient knowledge of each requirement when asked by a counselor.

Girls Take Flight Workshops

Dates: January 7, 2107 (Juniors); February 11, 2017 (Seniors)
Times: 10:30am - 3:30pm
Cost: $15 per scout, $12.50 per leader/adult (no coupons, passes, or memberships accepted)
Maximum Participants/Minimum Participants: 20/10

Meet women aviators, climb aboard real aircraft, take the controls at a flight simulator, build your own flying machine, learn the history of women in aviation, and much more! All participating scouts receive a NEAM fun patch, and museum admission is included. Girls Take Flight Workshops help Girl Scout Juniors and Seniors fulfill requirements for the It’s Your World: Change It! Agent of Change or GIRLtopia Journeys.

Youth/Camp Group Visits

Scout groups are welcome to visit the museum at a cost of $10.50 per person. Visits include an optional 60 minute guided highlights tour of the museum. Special tour topics are also available including Connecticut’s role in aviation, Aviation History, etc. Click here to submit a Youth/Camp Group Visits request form.
