Weekend and Holiday Programs
Immerse yourself in the adventure, history and science of aviation at the New England Air Museum, New England’s largest aviation museum. During the weekend the Air Museum offers fun and engaging programs for all ages throughout the Museum’s three exhibit hangars. Become a test pilot with our Build & Fly Challenge Activities, see an explosive science of flight demonstration, gain a pilot’s eye perspective as you sit in the cockpit of our many aircraft, take to the skies in our flight simulators and more. All
programs and activities are led by our talented and knowledgeable staff of Aerospace Educators and Docents, many of whom are pilots, engineers and scientists. Here are just some of the fun things for families to do:
Flight Science Discovery Station
The Flight Science Discovery Station is a portable interactive cart that can be found throughout the Exhibit Hangars. It demonstrates exciting scientific principles related to flight as well as offering hands-on activities related to learning to fly, aviation history, aircraft design and space flight.
Mystery Artifact
Test your aircraft knowledge. The Air Museum features a different artifacts
from it extensive collection for you to ponder, discuss and make your best guess as what you think the artifact is.
Build & Fly Challenge Activities
The Air Museum features hands-on Build & Fly activities that will spark the imagination and challenge the inquisitive mind. Build and fly parachutes, various airplanes, kites, rockets and more. Best of all you get to take your aircraft home for further flight testing.
Cockpit Tours
Gain a pilot’s eye perspective from the cockpit exploring the controls and flight instruments of select aircraft each day.
Stories Under a Wing
Museum Educators lead young aviators on a literary journey with stories about famous aviators, trips to space and creatures that have their own wings.
Wright Flyer Pedal Pushers
Take flight in one of the Wright Flyer pedal pushers. This is for the youngest aviator.
Flight Simulators
The Air Museum offers a variety of flight simulation experiences from Ride Simulators to Interactive Flight Simulators. All ages.
* Interactive Flight Simulation: take the controls of a Cessna 172 and fly over New York City, Hartford and beyond.
* Ride Simulator: Each Sunday from 12:30 – 4:30 take a “flight” in our full-motion Ercoupe Simulator.
* Flight Sim Zone: Coming August 8, 2011.
